Sarah

On Thursday 24 January, Sarah joined AB Marine on a Whale and Dolphin Watching Tour: Sarah says: It’s quite a strange experience at first at 5:30 in the morning... you step out onto the boat, with all your anticipation and excitement. And the sea is still, and a painful silence of the ocean just waking up as you are makes you wonder if you’ll actually see anything. And then from nowhere, one dolphin, five dolphins, 10 dolphins and then what seem to be hundreds encompass you and bring …

Guest Review by Bronwyn Ackhurst

On 06/01/2019, Bronwyn Ackhurst joined AB Marine on a Whale and Dolphin Watching Tour: Bronwyn Ackhurst says: We spent an amazing Sunday morning on the water, with Rainer and his crew, and saw some spectacular sights including our cruise alongside a huge pod of dolphins - they were so close and playful that we could almost reach out and touch them. This organisation exhibited strong conservation and ethical values towards the ocean and its wildlife. I was most impressed by the fact that …

Guest Review by Alan Straton

On 09/08/2018, Alan Straton joined AB Marine on a Whale and Dolphin Watching Tour: Alan Straton says: I have been on a number of trips with AB Marine and the one on 9 August was one of the Top TWO most special. A cold day greeted us as we left the Port of Port Elizabeth and ventured out into Algoa Bay in search of the migrating Brydes Whales. Little did we realise that we would experience an extremely close encounter with two whales of a different kind... Just as the vessel began …

Thumbs up for TWO Southern Right Whale Sightings

On 18/09/2019 at 08:30 am, Rainer skippered the Expert Tours Vessel and excited Guests on a Whale and Dolphin spotting trip to Cape Recife, leaving from PEDSAC at 08:30 am. Awesome Morning, Awesome Guests. Awesome Sightings. We were blessed today with two sightings of Southern Right Whales, some breaching humpback Whales and hundreds of dolphins. The first Southern Right was seen off of Hobie Beach - just chilling and calmly surfacing every 5 minutes after a good scratch in the sand below. The visibility was a good 5 metres all the way to Cape Recife. In the vicinity of the Pipe Surf Spot we met up with a pod of around 250 …

Wet AND Two Unique Sightings

On 16/09/2019 Anthony skippered the Expert Tours Vessel and excited Guests on a Whale and Dolphin spotting trip to Cape Recife, leaving from PEDSAC at 08:35 am. The weather prediction was just a little bit off today - the wind was a bit higher than expected and the swells outside the Bay just a tad higher than expected. Our guests were up to a bit of an adventure as we left the confines of the Bay in search of Whales. Yes, we got wet on the Super Duck but the adrenaline rush was worth it as Anthony skillfully piloted us in search of Whales. The spray from whales on the move becomes just that harder to see as the wind and spray increases …

Families on the Beach and MANY Families Going South

On 08/09/2019 at 12:30 am, Anthony skippered the AB Marine Vessel and excited Guests on a Whale and Dolphin spotting trip to Cape Recife, leaving from PEDSAC at 12:30 pm. Our trip on Sunday Afternoon started full of promise as reports came in from various sources having spotted Whales off of Cape Recife, Common Dolphins surfing into the bay, Orca's at Anchorage 2 and Humpbacks also at Anchorage 2. The expected weather prediction was for absolute calm in the Cape Recife area - ideal for us to start our journey and view the Whales, with a caveat that should we get confirmation and position of the Killer Whales we would beat it at a rate …

Awesome Trip with St Teresa’s RC Primary School Pupils

On 23/08/2019 Anthony skippered the Expert Tours Vessel and excited Guests on a Whale and Dolphin spotting trip to Cape Recife, leaving from PEDSAC at 09:00 am. Today's trip was one close to the heart of AB Marine as we hosted pupils from St Teresa's Primary School. These pupils were worthy prize wnners in the recent Mandela Bay BOATS Tournament held at Father's House Church in Patterson Road. BOATS is a sequel to the TANKS coding app, developed in Port Elizabeth by NMU Computing Sciences student - Byron Batteson, which aims to introduce children to basic coding concepts whilst educating them on the effects of plastic waste in the …

All about the BOOM

On 20/08/2019 at 12:20 pm, Anthony skippered the AB Marine Vessel and excited Guests on a Whale and Dolphin spotting trip to Cape Recife, leaving from PEDSAC at 12:20 pm. After leaving moorings we were delayed a while waiting for a ship to enter the Port and had a fascinating chat about lifestyle choices, eating choices, being almost swallowed by a whale and surviving a cobra bite. On our way out to the channel marker a friendly seal waved us over for a chat - it was pretty one way as he was more interested in sun bathing than exchanging pleasantries. Moving on out to sea we were alerted to dolphins a couple of nautical miles ahead …
