1823: Jane, this sailing vessel wrecked in a south-easterly gale in Table Bay in the Western Cape.
1957: Joan of Arc, this motor-powered vessel wrecked somewhere between Vondeling Island and St Helena Bay off the West Coast in the Western Cape. Very little is known about this vessel and the event.
2015: Clifton, this South African yacht foundered west of Saldanha Bay in the Western Cape. At the time the NSRI reported; “At 20h54 on Sunday the 22nd of November, NSRI Mykonos duty crew were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) following a request for urgent assistance from the 48 foot yacht Clifton with 6 crew onboard reporting to be taking water approximately 1 nautical mile off Jutten Island, 5 nautical miles from our sea rescue base in Mykonos. We launched our sea rescue craft Spirit of Freemasonry and on arrival on-scene all 6 crew were taken off their yacht onto our sea rescue craft. The yacht was listing and partly submerged. It is unknown what caused the yacht to take on water. The crew, all men aged between 50 and 60 years old, two from London, United Kingdom, and the remaining crew from Cape Town were not injured. They were brought to our sea rescue base and have made arrangements from there.”
