The Poor Misunderstood Abalone

5 February 2024 By AB Marine Guest

Abalones, with their quiet lives clinging to rocks, might seem like unlikely comedians. But imagine, after centuries attached to the same spot, they might have some unique perspectives and dry wit to share.

Here are some “jokes” an abalone might tell:

Why did the abalone get a speeding ticket? He was caught exceeding the shell-ocity limit.

What do you call an abalone who wins the lottery? Shell-abrated!

Why did the abalone go to the doctor? He felt a bit under the sea-ther weather.

What do you call an abalone who’s always late? A pro-crustinacean.

How does an abalone greet a friend? It gives a high-five… eventually.

Why do divers always look so surprised when they find me? They never suspect there’s intelligence under a rock.

What’s the best thing about being an abalone? No phone calls, no emails, just pure peace and quiet.

I’ve seen so many trends come and go in the ocean. Remember seahorse fanny packs? Those were weird.

What do you call a wave that never breaks? A procrastination station. I spend hours watching them.

Sometimes I envy the hermit crabs. They get to travel, but then I remember, no view beats being front-row seats to the ocean dance.

Why did the abalone get kicked out of the talent show? He couldn’t remember his shell-ebrated monologue.

What do you call an abalone with no friends? A loner-mollusk.

I may be slow, but at least I’m not a jellyfish. Those guys have no spine.

What does an abalone do when it’s bored? It counts the barnacles on its neighbor… very slowly.

Why did the abalone cross the reef? To prove it wasn’t attached! (Just kidding, it can’t actually move)

Remember, abalone humor might be subtle and delivered at a snail’s pace, but with a little imagination, you can hear the wit between the barnacles.
