On 01/08/2019 at 08:30 am, Anthony skippered the Expert Tours Vessel and excited Guests on a Whale and Dolphin spotting trip to Cape Recife, leaving from GQDSAC at 08:30 am.
Despite being given temporary permission to enter the Addo MPA and approach the islands closer than 300 meters our guests elected to rather go past Cape Recife and venture offshore to spot whales.
On the way there we spotted many seals fishing and, thanks to Anthony, stopped on our way to observe the seal you see in the image above having a ‘whale’ of a time fishing. As you can see the fish caught were on the large size and took a lot of vigorous shaking and aerobatics to break down in to bite sized chunks. Not a sight that we see on a regular basis and one that I have for the first time caught some semi-decent photographs of.
Once again the whales were skittish and not willing to come closer – opting to rather swim further south. We presume that these are stragglers on their way up to the party up north. Give it a few weeks and the big males will come cruising back down the coast all relaxed after their sojourn with the ladies…..
