A Chokka Day

26 December 2019 By Alan

On 26/12/2019 at 12:05 pm, Rainer skippered the Expert Tours Vessel and excited Guests on a Whale and Dolphin spotting trip to Cape Recife, leaving from GQDSAC at 12:05 pm. In the rising wind we elected to motor our along the beachfront and then poke our heads out the Bay to see the conditions. Bumpy seas and rising winds resulted in a poor day for dolphin and whale sightings. BUT - we did get to see a fleet of Choka Boats reeling the calamari in whilst a seal joined in the feast - it … [Read more...] about A Chokka Day

Abdel Review

On 25/12/2019 at 08:15 am, Rainer skippered the Algoa Bay Marine Vessel and excited Guests on a Whale and Dolphin spotting trip to St Croix, leaving from GQDSAC at 08:15 am. After our 'Plague' of dolphins off of Hobie Beach on Thursday 24 December we motored out to Jaheel and St Croix Islands hoping to catch the large pod in that area. The sea was flat calm and a welcome Christmas gift from Neptune allowing us to retrieve numerous pieces of plastic on our way. Turning in towards Jaheel … [Read more...] about Another FULL MARKS Review

Every Day is Different

24 December 2019 By Alan

On 24/12/2019 at 08:00 am, Rainer skippered the Algoa Bay Marine Vessel and excited Guests on a Whale and Dolphin spotting trip to Cape Recife, leaving from GQDSAC at 08:00 am. After our trips earlier this week both Rainer and I were hesitant of the possibility of seeing dolphins in Algoa Bay. Leaving the harbour in a 10 knot westerly we hugged the beachfront staying in the shelter of the land in the offshore breeze. On our way past Shark Rock Pier we elicited the help of our guests by … [Read more...] about Every Day is Different

A Pretty Unique Sighting

23 December 2019 By Alan

On 23/12/2019 at 08:30 am, Anthony skippered the Algoa Bay Marine Vessel and excited Guests on a Whale and Dolphin spotting trip to St Croix, leaving from GQDSAC at 08:30 am. The number of cetaceans in Algoa Bay is certainly down these last couple of weeks . Bird activity is less and whales and dolphins seem not to be in their 'normal' places. Today was HISTORICAL for two reasons, though: With the help of an eagle eyed guest we spotted an Africa Sacred Ibis Colony on Jaheel Island … [Read more...] about A Pretty Unique Sighting

18/12/2019 Trip

18 December 2019 By Alan

On 18/12/2019 at 09:30 am, Anthony skippered the Algoa Bay Marine Vessel and excited Guests on a Whale and Dolphin spotting trip to St Croix, leaving from GQDSAC at 09:30 am. With high offshore winds on the night of the 17th December the prediction was for flat seas and a good day out spotting whales and dolphins. We left the Port and motored out towards Pollock Beach, turned South and headed straight out. Algoa Bay was still and no sightings other than the off penguin, gannet and seagull … [Read more...] about 18/12/2019 Trip

On 18/09/2019 at 08:30 am, Rainer skippered the Expert Tours Vessel and excited Guests on a Whale and Dolphin spotting trip to Cape Recife, leaving from GQDSAC at 08:30 am. Awesome Morning, Awesome Guests. Awesome Sightings. We were blessed today with two sightings of Southern Right Whales, some breaching humpback Whales and hundreds of dolphins. The first Southern Right was seen off of Hobie Beach - just chilling and calmly surfacing every 5 minutes after a good scratch in the sand … [Read more...] about Thumbs up for TWO Southern Right Whale Sightings

Wet AND Two Unique Sightings

16 September 2019 By AB Marine Guest

On 16/09/2019 Anthony skippered the Expert Tours Vessel and excited Guests on a Whale and Dolphin spotting trip to Cape Recife, leaving from GQDSAC at 08:35 am. The weather prediction was just a little bit off today - the wind was a bit higher than expected and the swells outside the Bay just a tad higher than expected. Our guests were up to a bit of an adventure as we left the confines of the Bay in search of Whales. Yes, we got wet on the Super Duck but the adrenaline rush was worth it … [Read more...] about Wet AND Two Unique Sightings

The expected weather prediction was for absolute calm in the Cape Recife area - ideal … [Read more...] about Families on the Beach and MANY Families Going South

All about the BOOM

21 August 2019 By Alan

On 20/08/2019 at 12:20 pm, Anthony skippered the Algoa Bay Marine Vessel and excited Guests on a Whale and Dolphin spotting trip to Cape Recife, leaving from GQDSAC at 12:20 pm. After leaving moorings we were delayed a while waiting for a ship to enter the Port and had a fascinating chat about lifestyle choices, eating choices, being almost swallowed by a whale and surviving a cobra bite. On our way out to the channel marker a friendly seal waved us over for a chat - it was pretty one way … [Read more...] about All about the BOOM

What a Privilege to Make Young Dylan’s Dream Come True

8 August 2019 By AB Marine Guest

On 07/08/2019 at 12:30 pm, Anthony skippered the Algoa Bay Marine Vessel and excited Guests on a Whale and Dolphin spotting trip to Cape Recife, leaving from GQDSAC. We exited the Port of Gqeberha to be greeted by flat seas and a gentle, warm Northerly wind. Kudos to our Swiss Guest, Isabel, who had contacted us last week and said that she had spotted this perfect 4 hour gap in the weather to go out for a spot of Whale and Dolphin spotting- what a champion! Our Mission: To see if we could … [Read more...] about What a Privilege to Make Young Dylan’s Dream Come True

Fish goes flying

On 01/08/2019 at 08:30 am, Anthony skippered the Expert Tours Vessel and excited Guests on a Whale and Dolphin spotting trip to Cape Recife, leaving from GQDSAC at 08:30 am. Despite being given temporary permission to enter the Addo MPA and approach the islands closer than 300 meters our guests elected to rather go past Cape Recife and venture offshore to spot whales. On the way there we spotted many seals fishing and, thanks to Anthony, stopped on our way to observe the seal you see in … [Read more...] about Today was all about the Seals

Dolphin Dorsal Damaged

On 30/07/2019 at 08:00 am, Rainer skippered the Algoa Bay Marine Vessel and excited Guests on a Whale and Dolphin spotting trip to St Croix, leaving from GQDSAC at 08:00 am. Today we had a group of German guests on our vessel, as we headed to St. Croix Island. There we were entertained by a pod of about 400 bottlenose dolphins and a unique sighting of a small anchovy bait ball formed solely by African penguins in which a small shark joined. The following cetaceans were … [Read more...] about Flat Seas and One Unique Sighting

On 27/07/2019 at 12:10 pm, Rainer skippered the Expert Tours Vessel and excited Guests on a Whale and Dolphin spotting trip to Cape Recife, leaving from GQDSAC at 12:10 pm. We travelled out from the Port of Gqeberha in around 5 knots of warm North East breeze towards Cape Recife. Around 1 kilometres out from Cape Recife we spotted the first two Humpback Whales and followed one until about 22 kilometers offshore. The second Humpback followed rewarded us with a breach and then headed out to … [Read more...] about Summer in Winter Trip

On 04/06/2019 at 08:15 am, Marius skippered the Algoa Bay Marine Vessel and excited Guests on a Whale and Dolphin spotting trip to Cape Recife, leaving from GQDSAC at 08:15 am. We were privileged to be joined by 10 ladies from the tourism industry for a Whale and Dolphin Watching trip. There were part of  larger group of 20 so one elected to go to the islands whilst our group 'trusted our judgement' and elected to go and see whales at Cape Recife rather. The Humpback Whales are passing by … [Read more...] about 04/06/2019 Trip – Happy Breach
